Martin Mitchell | Board Member

Martin Mitchell is the former Director of Human Resources Operations for Oakland Unified School District. He was a transformational leader with a career marked by success in human resources operations, policy development and implementation, and union relations. He spent twenty years in Market Research working for major corporations such as Hallmark Cards, Prudential, and Kraft Foods. He received his MBA in Marketing from Clark Atlanta University and his BA from Howard University.

As a Board member, Board Treasurer, and Finance Chair of Our Family Coalition (OFC), Martin aided LGBTQ families in the greater Bay Area. He also served as the HR Professional Council Chair and Board Director for the Northern Section of the California Association of School Business Officers (CASBO). As he continues participating on the Board of Directors for City of Refuge United Church of Christ, he is honored to have been recently appointed to the Public Safety Commission by the Desert Hot Springs City Council. Since moving to Desert Hot Springs with his husband, Bob, in July 2021, Martin has been actively involved with Brothers of the Desert. They are the proud dads of two adult sons.
